Arrival of new Chinese bank may be known in half year - Sobotka

It may become clearer within half a year whether another financial institution from China will set up its branch in the Czech Republic, Czech Prime Minister Bohuslav Sobotka said after a meeting with representatives of Chinese banks in Beijing today.
Sobotka held talks with top managers of Industrial Commercial Bank of China (ICBC), China Development Bank and China Construction Bank. The main topic of their discussion was the development of successful cooperation between both countries in the area of banking.
"I would be very glad if further Chinese financial institutions came to Prague," Sobotka said.
In August this year, Bank of China the fourth biggest Chinese bank, opened its branch in Prague.
"I hope that within half a year their internal decision-making processes will bring a clearer outcome," Sobotka said.
"It will, of course, also depend on whether Chinese entrepreneurs will continue making investments in Prague. If they do, I suppose that financial infrastructure will come to Prague with them," Sbotka added.
Sobotka also held talks with representatives of significant banking houses in Shanghai.
Before these talks Sobotka opened a business forum in Beijing.
The main topics of Sobotka's current trip to China is the development of bilateral relations and intensification of cooperation in economy, investments, transport, banking, tourism and other areas.
Sobotka is being accompanied by a business delegation.
More than 30 memoranda and agreements are to be signed during Sobotka's trip. Among those signed this morning were a memorandum on creating a joint group for investments, an agreement on strategic cooperation between the Central Bohemia region and Chinese company Changhong concerning the creation of a research centre, and an agreement on cooperation between company Sotio and hospital Sino-Japan Friendship Hospital.
